The Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has today launched its first ever strategic plan and client service charter with the aim of improving service delivery to Lilongwe residents.
Under the slogan ‘a clean, green and prosperous city,’ the five year strategic plan will help Lilongwe city residents to hold the council accountable when it fails to fulfill its responsibilities.
Speaking during the official launch, LCC chief executive officer John Chome said the two documents will guide the council on the planning, budgeting, implementation of activities and monitoring of results.
He also touched on the need for mindset change among the residents of Lilongwe if the city is to achieve its goal of becoming clean and green.
In his remarks, National Planning Commission director general Thomas Munthali said the strategic plan will be an important guide as it clearly defines the socio-economic services needed for the capital city.
Munthali, however, asked for collaborative and collective effort on implementation citing partners also need to come in for the council to achieve its dream and promoting urbanisation with is also a pillar in the Agenda 2063.
Deputy minister of local government Halima Daudi applauded the council for providing platforms where people can present their queries saying this feedback will help in improving service delivery.
